resources to explore
There are so many excellent resources online and offered in person via employment services, career centers, and other locations. The few that I refer to below are one's I value and believe job-seekers across industries can utilize.
Good luck in your job-search.
Online Job Boards:
- Simplyhired - This site searches multiple job boards and brings the job openings into one list. Makes the job search efficient. It moved to my #1 position because of recent collaborations with LinkedIn - you can log-into your LinkedIn profile on Simplyhired and immediately see who you're connected to that works at the employer with the job opening. Great resource.
- Indeed - Very similar to Simplyhired without the social networking linkages. Great site.
- Craigslist - For years, large and small employers have been shifting away from contracts with larger job boards (monster, careerbuilder) to fill their positions from Craigslist. My recommendation to job-seekers is to be smart and safe on this site. You often don't know who you're applying to, so be smart about sharing personal information.
- www.labormarketinfo.edd.ca.gov: Type in the job title you want and location. Select the job title from the list. Next, find the section titled 'Industries that employ this occupation' for a free list of employers.
- Myplan.com: This is a great tool to research the basics of any job / industry you're interested in. From work activities to salary ranges, it has it all. The site uses O*Net data, which is a standard in the industry.
